Nurse Educator – Perioperative Services

PART-TIME (min 40 hours per fortnight)

We are seeking applications for a motivated and innovative Clinical Nurse Educator in Perioperative Services to advance best practice and educational outcomes and assist in the development of a growing team and expanding unit.

The position is responsible for facilitating and supporting all levels of nurses within the unit, through preceptorship, mentoring and orientation, with their educational requirements, by promoting continuing professional development, best practice initiatives and policy development.

This position is permanent part-time with a minimum of 40 hours per fortnight, with a degree of flexibility in hours and days worked to be decided together with the Perioperative Services Manager.

We have three operating theatres and a brand new CSSD with WPH recognised as a provider of high level patient care and support, and the only private hospital providing specialised care in Melbourne’s west.  We are fully equipped for a comprehensive range of surgical procedures including general, colorectal, ear nose and throat, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, orthopaedic, gynaecology, oral and maxillofacial, plastic & reconstructive, vascular & urology.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse (Division 1)
  • Extensive experience within the specialty of Perioperative Services with associated demonstrated advanced clinical practice and knowledge
  • Postgraduate qualification in Perioperative Nursing &/or education qualification or similar
  • Experience and passion for preceptorship and development of knowledge
  • Demonstrated ability to provide clinical education at the bedside and ability to assess competency and clinical practice
  • Experience in the development of protocols and policies and leading unit based projects
  • Cardiothoracic experience is highly desirable as we look to increase this specialty
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills  and demonstrated ability to work within a team
  • Excellent leadership and mentoring skills are an essential component of this role for the continuous quality improvement of the nursing team
  • Ability to positively impact the team utilising your interpersonal skills with an aim to facilitate growth and team unity, while remaining approachable and engaging in your methods

CSSD MANAGER

PART-TIME  |  3-4 DAYS PER WEEK

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to manage the day-to-day running of the Central Sterilising Service Department and to provide leadership, governance and ongoing development of CSSD.

You will be an advocate of our Quality Management System and promote a safe work environment, support your team to achieve streamlined operational management and meet relevant standards and best practices consistent with the CSSD specialty area.  Reporting to the Perioperative Services Manager, the role will be expected to support the Perioperative Services Unit by providing clinical expertise in the area of CSSD. The successful applicant will have proven leadership abilities, excellent communication skills, a strong focus on customer service and a sound knowledge of AS4187/ACORN standards.

You will work in a brand new CSSD, which opened in 2015 as part of our expansion, with three state-of-the-art operating theatres. Our Perioperative Services Unit is equipped for a comprehensive range of surgical procedures and WPH is recognised as a provider of high level of patient care and support.   • A Registered Nurse OR Enrolled Nurse with current AHPRA registration
  • Certificate IV in Sterilization Services
  • Minimum 3 years working in a CSSD and previous CSSD management experience
  • Current knowledge of accreditation standards and experience with requirements of  AS4187, ACORN, infection control and WHS
  • Sound knowledge and experience in the management and maintenance of sterilising processes, reusable medical devices and associated equipment
  • Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training is desirable
  • Ability to lead by example, build strong relationships and motivate a team
  • Be a positive change agent with a commitment to continual quality improvement
  • A strong interest in mentoring and development of staff
  • Demonstrated leadership, negotiating and interpersonal communication skills

Operating Theatre Technicians (Grade 2 or 3)

FULL-TIME, PART-TIME & CASUAL POSITIONS AVAILABLE

We are seeking experienced Theatre Technicians with a strong teamwork focus and effective customer service skills to join our Perioperative Services team.  You will enjoy working within a reputable and world class theatre environment with leading technologies and outstanding amenities.

A role that offers responsibility, challenge and the opportunity to be part of a dynamic and motivated multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for assisting Medical and Nursing Staff by performing a full range of duties.

Your duties will encompass - providing assistance with patient handling, transportation of patients to and from theatres, positioning of patients (lifting and turning), setting up and managing theatre case set-ups in accordance with operating lists, displaying attention to correct handling and management of sterile disposable and non-disposable stock, collection and delivery of equipment, assisting in stock management involving ordering and stock rotation including linen and other non-medical supplies, assisting in emergencies and patient restraint and any associated cleaning and ancillary duties.

To be successful in this role - applicants must have the ability and willingness to develop their knowledge of various theatre instruments, equipment and infection control processes. Key attributes sought are enthusiasm, good time management skills, a sound work ethic, clear communication skills and the ability to follow direction.  The ability to work as part of a team or unsupervised is essential.  Applicants will be expected to be able to manage the physical demands of the position and be willing and flexible to participate in a rotating roster and on-call duties as and when required.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Must possess a Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (Operating Theatre Technician)
  • A Certificate IV in Operating Theatre Technical Support would be desirable
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working in Australia as an Operating Theatre Technician
  • Sound knowledge of practices and procedures within a hospital operating theatre environment
  • Ability to apply quality control techniques and set up, program and operate complex equipment
  • Knowledge of manual handling principles and environmental hygiene standards an advantage
  • Excellent English communication skills (written & verbal)

ICU NURSES – Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS)

CASUAL SHIFTS

Are you an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist in Intensive Care / Critical Care? who is looking to pick up some extra shifts? Or are you looking for flexibility to work around your lifestyle? If so, we would love you to be a part of the Western Private Hospital team.

Due to increased demand we have opportunities for suitably qualified and experienced Critical Care Nurses to join our team on a CASUAL BASIS with a variety of casual hours working across a rotating roster (Monday to Sunday) across all shifts.

Our Intensive Care Unit comprises 6 beds and is a Level 2 ICU. We have the capability to provide patients with invasive and non-invasive ventilation, haemodynamic monitoring, continuous renal replacement therapy and cardiac support with an Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump.

You will be responsible for the coordination of patient care within an Intensive Care setting including:

  • providing total individualised patient care and assuming accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating therapy needs
  • discharge planning for each patient and assessing for current and potential problems
  • contributing to the achievement of clinical quality outcome indicators and patient satisfaction by demonstration of extraordinary service
  • educating the patient/family and other members of the health care team
  • identifying and alerting members of the medical team to changes in medical status of the patient
  • promoting E-Learning and Mandatory training completion

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Current Registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse (Division 1)
  • Extensive and recent clinical experience working in an ICU, High Dependency or Critical Care setting
  • Strong clinical and in particular critical care / acute nursing skills
  • Postgraduate Critical Care qualification
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced high pressure environment

ANUMS – Cardiac Services Unit

Western Private Hospital is the only private hospital serving Melbourne’s western and surrounding suburbs. We provide services in the specialties of interventional and diagnostic cardiology, vascular (interventional and surgical), acute medical, acute surgical, sleep studies, oncology care (inc. chemotherapy and radiation oncology).

The Cardiac Services Unit has 21 beds, 11 of which are centrally monitored.  Our services include caring for patients before, during and after coronary and vascular angiograms, percutaneous coronary interventions, interventional vascular procedures,  insertion of permanent pacemakers, electrophysiology studies, TOE/DCR’s and medical cardiology. This variety creates an excellent opportunity for our team to be dynamic, flexible and customer focused in addressing the unique needs of our patients.

We are looking for a motivated Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) to join our leadership team. It is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced, suitably qualified person to join Western Private Hospital during this exciting period of strong growth. You will be responsible for the clinical management of patients within the unit and work flow, ensuring that the highest standard of patient care with all available resources is provided at all times. You will be able to competently and confidently manage the overall smooth running of the unit by liaising and coordinating care of the patients with Visiting Medical Officers, the Cath Lab team and allied health services.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Current AHPRA registration, RN Div 1
  • Postgraduate Certificate (or equivalent) in Critical Care/Coronary Care
  • Previous CNS/ANUM experience in a Cardiac Unit
  • Experience in clinical coordination, floor coordination and staff management
  • Strong clinical skills
  • Act as positive model and leader in the unit, facilitating individual and team growth and development
  • Provide local leadership to guide team culture and action to facilitate achievement of organisational objectives
  • Ability to facilitate innovation and continuous quality improvement
  • Well developed interpersonal and conflict management skills
  • Must have a degree of flexibility to work varying hours to meet the operational needs of the hospital
